How do you bring a celebrated dining environment into a new era of lighting while preserving the atmosphere that defines it?
Martabaan by Hemant Oberoi is a renowned Indian restaurant within the iconic Emirates Palace Hotel in Abu Dhabi, distinguished by its refined interiors and carefully crafted dining ambience. As part of the project’s renewal, the restaurant sought to embrace the efficiency and longevity of LED lighting alongside a more capable control system, while preserving the look and feel that had become an integral part of its identity.
Creation approached the project with a clear focus: to elevate the lighting and control experience while remaining true to the character of the space. The challenge was not simply to introduce new technology, but to integrate it with discretion, ensuring every enhancement contributes to the ambience, performance and experience that define Martabaan.

THE BRIEF: CHANGE WITHOUT REINVENTION
Martabaan‘s double-height interior brings together multiple lighting applications, each with its own demands for product selection, programming and effect. The objective was clear: transition to LED technology while retaining the ambience and visual character that guests already associated with the restaurant.
Creation selected lighting solutions around the requirements of each application, introducing improved energy efficiency, longer service life and easier maintenance. Careful programming brought the different elements together, allowing the renewed scheme to work naturally within the existing architectural language.
CONTROL, REIMAGINED
A new lighting platform required a control system capable of supporting it. Creation replaced the existing dimmer panel with Mode Lighting dimmer racks and introduced five control keypads across the restaurant, giving the Emirates Palace Hotel team greater flexibility in day-to-day operation.
Networking and iPad-based control added another layer of accessibility. Working closely with the hotel engineering team, Creation also adapted grouping and wiring arrangements within the existing infrastructure, achieving the required functionality without extensive intervention to the established environment.
KNOWING WHAT TO CHANGE
The renewal took place within an established restaurant, where every intervention had to work around ongoing hotel operations and the existing infrastructure. Creation managed the process from supply and installation through testing, commissioning and handover, followed by system demonstration and operational training for the hotel team.
The project required an understanding of the space beyond its technical requirements. That perspective informed the decisions made throughout the renewal and helped translate the new requirements into a considered outcome.

At Martabaan, Creation brought lighting and controls into a new chapter, introducing greater flexibility, precision and capability while keeping the restaurant’s identity at the center.
