Illuminating the Future: Creation at Masdar City
Illuminating the Future: Creation at Masdar City

At Masdar City, the vision was already strong—grounded in sustainability and thoughtful design. Our role was to interpret that vision through light in a way that felt natural, not imposed.
What stood out was the need to strike a balance. The interiors called for a quiet, functional approach, while the façades invited something more expressive—especially in how M19A and M19B each carry their own character.

At the heart of Masdar City—Abu Dhabi’s beacon of sustainable innovation—two office complexes now rise, conceived not merely as places of work but as living symbols of the city’s vision for the future. Known as M19A and M19B, these buildings are more than glass, steel, and faceted GRC façades. They are architectural testaments to progress, designed to merge efficiency with human experience. And within this canvas of innovation, Creation was entrusted with a singular task: to give the architecture its voice through light.

From the earliest design conversations, the mandate was unambiguous. Every lumen had to honor not only form and function but also the highest sustainability benchmarks—LEED, WELL, and Estidama. This was never to be a project of simple illumination; it was to be a narrative where light shaped meaning, mood, and memory. Partnering with Obermeyer Middle East, Ecobuild, and M4 Contracting, Creation stepped into its role as both designer and supplier, orchestrating simulations, fixture selections, and technical calculations that transformed abstract visions into tangible atmospheres.
Inside, public areas are softly lit through a carefully curated selection of fixtures, balancing comfort with energy efficiency. Even the parking zones—often forgotten in architectural storytelling—were considered carefully, their clarity providing reassurance without excess. Beyond the interiors, the architecture itself became the focal stage.

The façades demanded more than vision; they required ingenuity. Custom linear fixtures from OneEightyOne had to be integrated seamlessly, their alignment with the sharp geometries of the structure leaving no margin for compromise. Through relentless coordination with consultants, contractors, and decision-makers, Creation overcame each obstacle—proving once again that challenges are not hindrances but gateways to refinement.
The façades though both orchestrated through the DiGidot control system tell two distinct stories. M19A, equipped with static white fixtures by AKTO, is defined by a stately, restrained elegance. M19B, in contrast, is brought to life with RGBW fixtures that transform the façade into a dynamic canvas of shifting hues. After dusk, the building becomes a living tapestry of color, a spectacle that reflects Masdar’s identity as a city always in motion.

What emerged was far greater than compliance or certification. It was a lighting system that echoes Masdar City’s ethos: to build intelligently, sustainably, and beautifully. Today, as dusk settles and the façades awaken—M19A serene in its permanence, M19B alive with color—the buildings speak with light, not as ornamentation but as experience.
For Creation, this project was not simply about installing fixtures or programming controls. It was about weaving light into the very fabric of architecture, ensuring that every space—public or private, interior or exterior—carries forward the quiet promise of a city built for the future.

Invisible Efficiency!
Using daylight-responsive controls and occupancy-based dimming ensures light is used only when needed. this approach not only reduces energy consumption in line with LEED and Estidama targets but also supports occupant wellbeing as encouraged by WELL.
