Creation is proud to have completed another prestigious and complex restaurant lighting project. The specialized requirements at Phileas Fogg called for multiple lighting scenarios which could be effectively met with ingenuity, aided by some amazing Helvar products.
The present trend is towards empowering the end user to easily switch between various scenarios without the need for a specialist programmer. For example, Helvar’s uSee web browser interface puts the management of a lighting system in the hands of end users without the need for programming knowledge. It is a welcome trend for both user and designer as it frees up the latter’s time for more creative challenges.

Project – Phileas Fogg
Contractor – Streamline
Phileas Fogg is a 32,000 square feet restaurant located at the Address Montgomerie, Emirates Hills, Dubai. Inspired by Phileas Fogg of Jules Verne’s novel, ‘Around the world in 80 days, the restaurant has a wacky decor and the menu is from, as you would expect, around the world. It is split into four bespoke spaces; The Orangery, Sports Pub, Garden, Amphitheater. It is all set to become the go-to neighbourhood.
Called in by Streamline to Supply, Test and Commission the Lighting Control Systems at the project, Team Creation came up with a solution using renowned Lighting Controls brand Helvar.

Products from Helvar were chosen due to the need for creating an elaborate program and complex graphics on a touchscreen that would cover all potential scenarios. The DIGIDIM 498 8-Channel Relay Unit was used for switching. The DIGIDIM Universal Dimmer was used for mains dimming circuits. It is a DALI-compatible lamp interface unit for use in a DIGIDIM lighting control system. The dimmer is a DIN-rail-mounted unit that can control a maximum load of 1000 W at 230 V with a trailing edge mode and a leading-edge mode.
Helvar Routers acted as the “brain” of the system facilitating the processing and programming requirements. Helvar’s Designer software allows for advanced configuration and functional programming of the router. The program is stored in the router itself allowing it to function without the need of a PC and thus acts as the processor for the control system. uSee Web browser user interface, a hardware and software platform was used in conjunction with a Helvar router system. This allows end-users to set their scene levels via most web access devices including PCs, tablets, and smartphones.
