When the lighting works, the complexity disappears

The true measure of lighting integration lies in understanding what already exists and finding the right way to make it work better. At NYX – Gaia, this meant restoring the decorative wall-disc lighting and finding a practical solution for additional decorative lights that were not responding as intended.

By introducing Casambi wireless control, Creation enabled individual control of these lights while minimizing intervention in the existing DALI infrastructure. It is this balance of technical understanding, thoughtful problem-solving and respect for existing systems that defines our approach to lighting integration, allowing complex requirements to be resolved with precision and care.

Client: Fundamental Hospitality
Location: NYX – Gaia, Gate Village 4, Dubai
Lighting Designer: Lighting Design Studio (LDS)
Main Contractor: Evolve Interiors

At NYX – Gaia, Dubai, restoring the decorative wall discs involved more than simply reinstalling the fixtures. The work required new cabling, driver and decoder connections, and careful integration with the existing DMX control system.

From cable routing to testing and commissioning, each stage focused on restoring the lighting installation and ensuring the DMX system delivered the coordinated effects essential to NYX’s immersive atmosphere.

A separate challenge involved additional decorative wall lights connected to the existing DALI infrastructure, which were not responding as intended. Locating the associated drivers and tracing the wiring proved difficult, making extensive intervention in the existing system impractical within the available timeframe.

WHEN A DIFFERENT APPROACH MAKES SENSE

To address the issue, Creation introduced Casambi wireless control modules for the additional decorative lights. This enabled individual control through the Casambi application while minimising intervention in the existing DALI infrastructure.

Working alongside Lighting Design Studio (LDS), Evolve Interiors and the NYX in-house team, Creation coordinated the installation, control connections, testing and commissioning. Cable identification and labelling were also incorporated to simplify future maintenance and troubleshooting.

The completed installation retained DMX control of the decorative wall discs while adding individual wireless control for the additional decorative lights. This approach brought both lighting elements together while providing greater flexibility in lighting management.

THE THINKING BEHIND THE FINISH

The project demonstrates how careful reinstatement and an alternative control approach can address different requirements within a single lighting installation.

By working with the existing infrastructure and adapting the solution to on-site conditions, Creation brought the two lighting systems together while prioritising reliable operation, flexibility and long-term maintainability.

The best technical solutions allow the lighting to take center stage.

DMX Tip: Work With What’s Already There

Integrating DMX-controlled lighting into an existing installation involves more than connecting fixtures. Careful cable routing, driver and decoder configuration, and coordinated testing are essential to restoring intended lighting effects while maintaining the existing control architecture. A thorough understanding of the infrastructure helps ensure a more precise and considered approach to lighting reinstatement.
