The role of lighting in enhancing customer engagement and improving sales is still grossly underrated. Statistics reveal that good lighting can boost sales by as much as 200% and therefore one cannot stress its importance. Good lighting can lull customers into a state of well being influencing their mood to linger, browse and buy more. Meanwhile correctly placed accent lighting can help draw attention to specific items or displays. It’s important to find the right balance between highlighting product displays and not overwhelming shoppers with too much light. Lighting solutions need to be simple but strategic. A fine example of how this can be achieved is for all to see at the newly opened Garda Decor’s store in Dubai.

Garda Deccor is located at the ‘Art of Living’, the first-ever shopping mall in the UAE and the MENA region specialising in high-end home furniture and interior design solutions. The new shopping mall is located in the heart of Dubai, in Barsha 2 – Umm Suqeim Road, spanning a total area of 50,000 sqm spread across three levels and featuring a prestigious line-up of local, regional and international brands that include newcomers to the regional market.

Garda Décor company was founded in Russia in 2004 to provide a one-stop location for purchasing unique interior items and decor elements for an apartment, country house or office.

Arco Group banked on their time-tested relationship with Creation Gulf to assist them in meeting the lighting requirements for Garda Decor’s new store.

The project called for a ‘Quality of lighting’ solution that must be executed within stringent timelines. Creation’s team worked closely with the Arco team to execute this luxurious project in record time.

Creation was tasked with the supply of light fittings that included track lights and joinery lights for the approximately 400 sq metre Garda store. The brief was to provide a lighting solution that will balance the ambient and focused types of lighting thereby creating the right ambience to enhance the products and surrounding space.

“One of the criteria was to use the minimum number of fixtures to get the required light levels and create the class and the mood required for the store. We used track lights for general lighting in the 400 sqm open plan showroom to create a warm ambience and strip lights were used for joinery lighting. The light fixtures were selected on the basis of reliability and short lead times as we worked to a tight deadline. Keeping an eye on the bottom line while never losing sight of high quality was the hallmark of this project,” reveals Mr Dharmendra Patel, MD, Creation Gulf.

Lighting for retail store

The first step is determining the types of store lighting that can be combined and these include Accent, Decorative, Ambient and Task. The second step is to choose the right brightness and tone depending on the desired final effect. Next, select the bulb type, which can be CFL, Halogen, LED, or a combination. The selection of fixtures is the next step. A wide variety of fixtures are available such as track lighting, surface mounted, flush recessed etc. and these can be combined depending on the light requirement. Finally, create a retail store lighting plan, combining, as needed various inputs from above.
